Favourite Dream

Why now? Because I am finally ready to write something about this album that just haunts me ever since I got it… I still can’t explain why…. Yes, I am a huge Monkeys fan… and, hell yeah, I adore the new album… an album that sets off with “Brianstorm”, a strong, tight song that effortlessly leaves everyone breathless… In fact, the whole album is brilliantly tight and filled with energy: it’s the bass. And maybe the production, James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco. Prince Monkey’s lyrics are just as sharp/mikeskinner-scented on this album as they were on the first one: the kid’s got loads of talent and one can not deny it… ‘D is for danger’ and ‘This house is a circus’ are huge: the vocal part gives them their undeniable strength. “Balaclava”, “Teddy Picker”, “If you were there”, “The bad thing” and “Old yellow bricks” are reminders of the past song – because, all in all, the Monkeys did not change one bit. “Fluorescent adolescent” follows the line of stories about the hardship of adolescence in nowadays England. The slow-scented “Only Ones Who Know” is just as comforting as James Murphy’s “NY I Love You”. “Do me a favour” has some of Turner’s best lines – “to tear apart the ties that bond/perhaps ‘fuck off’ might be to kind”. The ending is monumental, probably my favourite song of the album: “505” has a great, fuzzy psychedelic feel, it’s the only song I can say is completely different from anything they ever did and its lyrics blow me away each time – “I’m always about to go and spoil a surprise, take my hands off of yr eyes too soon” and so on….Ladies and gentlemen, Arctic Monkeys are back….

Tasty

Picture moment... because they are so cute in their white thights and all new rave... Now they're just popping pills and Simon's being a twat and saying bad things about new rave...which is all Lovefoxx's fault, I am sure... I say 'Hang her!'... and i am one of those people who really likes lovefoxx... but, as i said... for Klaxons i'd do anything....

i KnOw KuNg Fu

The idea of fourthcoming Interpol album makes me wanna listen to their music... However, I can't... I keep on listening to Klaxons and These new puritans and Twisted charm and Shitdisco and, well...basically new-rave stuff.... I probably find the thought that i'll have to depend on others to get it irritating... or maybe that fact that they'll be singing in Paris in May.... And I'm in Lyon... Don't know, waiting for it and dancing to 'The Bouncer' in the mid-time...

French and English (and one Romanian, as far I know of….) Danced Together

1. Small Town Boys

It’s almost 8:30 and the sound engineers are done with the sound check…. The lights turn off, the music stops and the four lads from Good Shoes get on stage (yes, I was impressed by this, because 8:30 was the time on the ticket and that’s when they got on stage). They started right away, after a ‘Bonsoir’. Good performance, they sound just as good live as on the record, the drummer is really good, the bassist gave a guy from the public some of his beer (the guy had asked him for a sip), the bassist blushed and smiled shyly when someone from the audience smiled at him, the lead singer said a few ‘merci beaucoup’ and that was it. They were great but they were rather unknown to the audience (we were about 5 people in the crowd dancing) and thus the audience was rather cold with them and they were cold with the audience. Nothing more, nothing less….

  1. The World Is A Mess, But Alan’s Dance Moves Are Perfect

At about 9:30, the impatient crowd was satisfied: The Rakes got on stage. And the chaos began: moshpitting…as always. Body heat, the smell of the sweat, me lacking both air and water. But it was great. Wearing a white “Irish Writer’s” tee, dancing maniacally like Curtis, throwing ‘philosophical’ phrases like ‘Slow songs are nice’, Alan Donohoe had a perfect performance and left us all wanting for more. They really interacted with the public, making little jokes like “I’m not gonna do the jukebox for you, if you wanna listen to Beatles buy an album and listen to them in yr bedroom” ( someone was probably requesting a song), constantly giving beer to the audience and doing impersonations of Michael Jackson and Bowie. And hey, they may not be a groundbreaking band, but they have a huge energy and they sound f*cking amazing live. So, after a great last song, “The World Was A Mess, But His Hair Was Perfect”, and one hour and a half of moshpitting, I got meself a huge Cola in order to get some liquid in my body and got on the metro back to The dorm….

O is for obsessed

nancy boyo: i am in love with 505 and d id for dangerous...

nancy boyo: and don't think i will any time soon
nancy boyo: and i can't explain why i love the new stuff so much...
nancy boyo: and i find that so very wrong...
Tina: :|
Tina: oh my.
nancy boyo: a review of the album written by me...that is out of the discusion...because i don't know what to say...that would sound even a bit credible.......
Tina.: maybe you could... publicly exorcise it? as in, make it your sts that you love it and hope it'll be a bad dream tomorrow?
nancy boyo: i tried...
nancy boyo: it's hopeless...

Yes, I tried... I'll try again... Well...I am aware things will go downhill if i do this...but... maaaaybe it'll work...So, hell... I love the new Arctic Monkeys album... I love it beyond words... I could listen to it on repeat for the rest of my life... However, i find no... erm... reasons why I love it so... I just know I do... actually, i'm not even sure I know... It's like a rollercoaster ride... or even better, the moshpit at a Klaxons gig... You're just too busy seeing red when all I see is blue.

I know they are such a known band... who cares? They may not be highly inovative, but their music gives me a feeling like few band do... something so visceral, I don't know how to explain it... Maybe it's the australian thingy that makes them so damn fabulous... I love how this song, Autobahn Music Box, sets off (slightly acoustic), I love the "I'm sorry, baby, for what I did to you" part (his voice and the way the instrumental goes), i love the chick's voice... I love the lyrics... makes me wanna dance....

La nouvelle scene française Part 2. aka The Ones I Like

Although i can't say that ‘la nouvelle scene française’ gets my groove on (remember this post?)….there are certain bands that are totally worth it...

I love UFO sound like a blast of energy, they have great drums and I instantly fell in love with the vocals...

I Love UFO - Like In The Movies.mp3

Stuck In The Sound
make me feel all hyper… and they just have fabulous song titles…

Stuck in the Sound - Never on the radio.mp3

The Kissinmas
draw influences shamelessly from the British dance punk movement… yet, they manage not to sound like ‘trying to be British’… The result: a blast of energy and a band that could be mistaken for a British one….a bloody good one…

The Kissinmas - Disco Punk (Is Too Easy).mp3

The Love Bandits are slightly funkier… and I do believe they give the late 90’s French electronic scene some credit…

The Love Bandits - She Loves Sex.mp3

Los Chicros fool you… if you hear “Diskonoise” you might think they are some indie-dance act… Thus, the rest of the album comes as a surprise… it’s folkier, more acoustic… And it really sounds good…

Los Chicros - Diskonoize.mp3

The Clerks
were one of the three bands that performed at Inrock Indie Soiree in Lyon… (the other two were The Sunshine Underground and The Automatic)… Blemey… I couldn’t believe there are French… The English accent was perfect… Well, besides that, they do this danceable pop-punk that isn’t far to innovative but is fun….

I saw Arpad Flynn and The Mockings in December ’06… Ninkasi… as always… And I was amazed… Arpad Flynn are this art-rock band from Lyon… somewhere between Sonic Youth and Joy Division….that know how to give a great energetic live performance…The Mockings are also from Lyon….Their style is more of Bowie meets Led Zeppelin meets New York Dolls…I like them….

Unfortunetly, I do not have anything from the last three acts... so, if anyone who reads this has songs of theirs... could you please... *big grin**puppy eyes*

I'll just spread the word

I won't say anything about The Tangles...Tina introduced them to me...she even recced them on her blog... so I'll just spread the word this time...I love them too much not to...on their site, you can find the entire demo album and a video...enjoy...
.

Beliving is Art

Now...I knew the guys from Orange Romania had a love for britpop/indie stuff...they did use "The Universal"(Blur), "Just Like Heaven"(The Cure) and "Don't Look Back into The Sun"(The Libertines) for their ads...But I never thought ClickNet would top them...Honestly, I feel proud my internet connection at home, in Bucharest, is provided by ClickNet...although...I am fully aware that the guy from the advertising company are responsible for this...

by the way, the song is "The Way We Get By" by Spoon...a band I happen to adore

Fried Thoughts

Spring is gone, summer's here... Oh, Kitty, yr face so forsaken, crushed by the way that you cry... imi fac un tea in gincups si ma asez la birou sa ma bronzez uniform... soarele ma asteapta cu o insolatie... si eu o astept pe mama... pun cana de la filtru de cafea in frigider, plina cu apa si pliculete de Earl Grey... no honey... Ladybug Transistor se potrivesc destul de bine cu this moment in time and space...

Happy as Eddie

Six Queens

I'm the sixth queen
I'm the wrong queen
I've got mascara running through my bloodstream
I'm on the hot step
I've got a broken heart
I want to be a cherry lipped little cheap tart

There's a boy with a monobrow and club foot
And his family own all his villages huts
So I'll travelled to New York
And sold my crotch for a dollar and a short

But there's a symphony in my heart
And I've lost all my morals
Down an alleyway, boot polish, sky gaze
Bloody murder, my life has moved in strangeways
I was the sixth queen from the start
But I cast all my morals
On a tube train, boot polish, sky gaze
Bloody murder my life has moved in strangeways

I've got secrets trapped in my fishnets
I'm a coward man that works in an office block
I was a child who craved for a new world
I was a boy who yearned to be a cover girl
I learnt the history, and read about the six queens
I decided life should be about playing for the other team
I broke society wit a lipstick shot
Now my life has grown for old to hot

But there's a symphony in my heart
And I've lost all my morals
Down an alleyway, boot polish, sky gaze
Bloody murder, my life has moved in strangeways
I was the sixth queen from the start
But I cast all my morals
On a tube train, boot polish, sky gaze
Bloody murder my life has moved in strangeways

But theres a tragedy in my heart
But I've lost all my morals
Down an alleyway, boot polish, sky gaze
Bloody murder, my life has moved in strangeways
I was the sixth queen from the start
But I cast all my morals
On a tube train, boot polish, sky gaze
Bloody murder my life has moved in strangeways

Wait for me about a year or two

Did I mention I love Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin?....and it isn't just due to the name and the idea it sends (in case you did not know, I was really fascinated by Yeltsin at the tender age of 6...). It also because of 'Oregon Girl', a song of which I just can't seem to get enough...And the rest of the album, Broom, an album that is not inovative, not surprising...well, the rest of the album is something like an acoustic Bloc Party meets an acoustic Interpol meets Of Montreal on their first album meets..well, just about any big indie cult band of the last decade (Elliot Smith, The Shins, Olivia Tremor Control..with some vocals Conor Oberst-style)...even more surprising is the ease the four guys for SSLYBY have when performing...such an ease, you can't posibily not love their girl-named songs....
