Favourite Dream

Why now? Because I am finally ready to write something about this album that just haunts me ever since I got it… I still can’t explain why…. Yes, I am a huge Monkeys fan… and, hell yeah, I adore the new album… an album that sets off with “Brianstorm”, a strong, tight song that effortlessly leaves everyone breathless… In fact, the whole album is brilliantly tight and filled with energy: it’s the bass. And maybe the production, James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco. Prince Monkey’s lyrics are just as sharp/mikeskinner-scented on this album as they were on the first one: the kid’s got loads of talent and one can not deny it… ‘D is for danger’ and ‘This house is a circus’ are huge: the vocal part gives them their undeniable strength. “Balaclava”, “Teddy Picker”, “If you were there”, “The bad thing” and “Old yellow bricks” are reminders of the past song – because, all in all, the Monkeys did not change one bit. “Fluorescent adolescent” follows the line of stories about the hardship of adolescence in nowadays England. The slow-scented “Only Ones Who Know” is just as comforting as James Murphy’s “NY I Love You”. “Do me a favour” has some of Turner’s best lines – “to tear apart the ties that bond/perhaps ‘fuck off’ might be to kind”. The ending is monumental, probably my favourite song of the album: “505” has a great, fuzzy psychedelic feel, it’s the only song I can say is completely different from anything they ever did and its lyrics blow me away each time – “I’m always about to go and spoil a surprise, take my hands off of yr eyes too soon” and so on….Ladies and gentlemen, Arctic Monkeys are back….

Tasty

Picture moment... because they are so cute in their white thights and all new rave... Now they're just popping pills and Simon's being a twat and saying bad things about new rave...which is all Lovefoxx's fault, I am sure... I say 'Hang her!'... and i am one of those people who really likes lovefoxx... but, as i said... for Klaxons i'd do anything....

i KnOw KuNg Fu

The idea of fourthcoming Interpol album makes me wanna listen to their music... However, I can't... I keep on listening to Klaxons and These new puritans and Twisted charm and Shitdisco and, well...basically new-rave stuff.... I probably find the thought that i'll have to depend on others to get it irritating... or maybe that fact that they'll be singing in Paris in May.... And I'm in Lyon... Don't know, waiting for it and dancing to 'The Bouncer' in the mid-time...

French and English (and one Romanian, as far I know of….) Danced Together

1. Small Town Boys

It’s almost 8:30 and the sound engineers are done with the sound check…. The lights turn off, the music stops and the four lads from Good Shoes get on stage (yes, I was impressed by this, because 8:30 was the time on the ticket and that’s when they got on stage). They started right away, after a ‘Bonsoir’. Good performance, they sound just as good live as on the record, the drummer is really good, the bassist gave a guy from the public some of his beer (the guy had asked him for a sip), the bassist blushed and smiled shyly when someone from the audience smiled at him, the lead singer said a few ‘merci beaucoup’ and that was it. They were great but they were rather unknown to the audience (we were about 5 people in the crowd dancing) and thus the audience was rather cold with them and they were cold with the audience. Nothing more, nothing less….

  1. The World Is A Mess, But Alan’s Dance Moves Are Perfect

At about 9:30, the impatient crowd was satisfied: The Rakes got on stage. And the chaos began: moshpitting…as always. Body heat, the smell of the sweat, me lacking both air and water. But it was great. Wearing a white “Irish Writer’s” tee, dancing maniacally like Curtis, throwing ‘philosophical’ phrases like ‘Slow songs are nice’, Alan Donohoe had a perfect performance and left us all wanting for more. They really interacted with the public, making little jokes like “I’m not gonna do the jukebox for you, if you wanna listen to Beatles buy an album and listen to them in yr bedroom” ( someone was probably requesting a song), constantly giving beer to the audience and doing impersonations of Michael Jackson and Bowie. And hey, they may not be a groundbreaking band, but they have a huge energy and they sound f*cking amazing live. So, after a great last song, “The World Was A Mess, But His Hair Was Perfect”, and one hour and a half of moshpitting, I got meself a huge Cola in order to get some liquid in my body and got on the metro back to The dorm….

O is for obsessed

nancy boyo: i am in love with 505 and d id for dangerous...
nancy boyo: i can't stop drooling at the sheer thought of those two tracks...
nancy boyo: and don't think i will any time soon
nancy boyo: and i can't explain why i love the new stuff so much...
nancy boyo: and i find that so very wrong...
Tina: :|
Tina: oh my.
nancy boyo: a review of the album written by me...that is out of the discusion...because i don't know what to say...that would sound even a bit credible.......
Tina.: maybe you could... publicly exorcise it? as in, make it your sts that you love it and hope it'll be a bad dream tomorrow?
nancy boyo: i tried...
nancy boyo: it's hopeless...

Yes, I tried... I'll try again... Well...I am aware things will go downhill if i do this...but... maaaaybe it'll work...So, hell... I love the new Arctic Monkeys album... I love it beyond words... I could listen to it on repeat for the rest of my life... However, i find no... erm... reasons why I love it so... I just know I do... actually, i'm not even sure I know... It's like a rollercoaster ride... or even better, the moshpit at a Klaxons gig... Katrina... enough comparing...so, i'll have to open up and confess that I am uncapable of saying something smart... no, saying something about it... I will just drool... excuse me, I must drool....

Millennium Peolpe

o.O...dude...7.5/10..that is massive...considering the people who recced it...anyways, a vid is required... here it is...

Monday, April 23

You're just too busy seeing red when all I see is blue.

I know they are such a known band... who cares? They may not be highly inovative, but their music gives me a feeling like few band do... something so visceral, I don't know how to explain it... Maybe it's the australian thingy that makes them so damn fabulous... I love how this song, Autobahn Music Box, sets off (slightly acoustic), I love the "I'm sorry, baby, for what I did to you" part (his voice and the way the instrumental goes), i love the chick's voice... I love the lyrics... makes me wanna dance....

Cut Copy - Autobahn Music Box.mp3

La nouvelle scene française Part 2. aka The Ones I Like

Although i can't say that ‘la nouvelle scene française’ gets my groove on (remember this post?)….there are certain bands that are totally worth it...

I love UFO sound like a blast of energy, they have great drums and I instantly fell in love with the vocals...

I Love UFO - Like In The Movies.mp3

Stuck In The Sound
make me feel all hyper… and they just have fabulous song titles…

Stuck in the Sound - Never on the radio.mp3

The Kissinmas
draw influences shamelessly from the British dance punk movement… yet, they manage not to sound like ‘trying to be British’… The result: a blast of energy and a band that could be mistaken for a British one….a bloody good one…

The Kissinmas - Disco Punk (Is Too Easy).mp3

The Love Bandits are slightly funkier… and I do believe they give the late 90’s French electronic scene some credit…

The Love Bandits - She Loves Sex.mp3

Los Chicros fool you… if you hear “Diskonoise” you might think they are some indie-dance act… Thus, the rest of the album comes as a surprise… it’s folkier, more acoustic… And it really sounds good…

Los Chicros - Diskonoize.mp3

The Clerks
were one of the three bands that performed at Inrock Indie Soiree in Lyon… (the other two were The Sunshine Underground and The Automatic)… Blemey… I couldn’t believe there are French… The English accent was perfect… Well, besides that, they do this danceable pop-punk that isn’t far to innovative but is fun….

I saw Arpad Flynn and The Mockings in December ’06… Ninkasi… as always… And I was amazed… Arpad Flynn are this art-rock band from Lyon… somewhere between Sonic Youth and Joy Division….that know how to give a great energetic live performance…The Mockings are also from Lyon….Their style is more of Bowie meets Led Zeppelin meets New York Dolls…I like them….

Unfortunetly, I do not have anything from the last three acts... so, if anyone who reads this has songs of theirs... could you please... *big grin**puppy eyes*

I'll just spread the word

I won't say anything about The Tangles...Tina introduced them to me...she even recced them on her blog... so I'll just spread the word this time...I love them too much not to...on their site, you can find the entire demo album and a video...enjoy...
.

Beliving is Art

Now...I knew the guys from Orange Romania had a love for britpop/indie stuff...they did use "The Universal"(Blur), "Just Like Heaven"(The Cure) and "Don't Look Back into The Sun"(The Libertines) for their ads...But I never thought ClickNet would top them...Honestly, I feel proud my internet connection at home, in Bucharest, is provided by ClickNet...although...I am fully aware that the guy from the advertising company are responsible for this...

by the way, the song is "The Way We Get By" by Spoon...a band I happen to adore

Fried Thoughts

Spring is gone, summer's here... Oh, Kitty, yr face so forsaken, crushed by the way that you cry... imi fac un tea in gincups si ma asez la birou sa ma bronzez uniform... soarele ma asteapta cu o insolatie... si eu o astept pe mama... pun cana de la filtru de cafea in frigider, plina cu apa si pliculete de Earl Grey... no honey... Ladybug Transistor se potrivesc destul de bine cu this moment in time and space...

Happy as Eddie

Six Queens

I'm the sixth queen
I'm the wrong queen
I've got mascara running through my bloodstream
I'm on the hot step
I've got a broken heart
I want to be a cherry lipped little cheap tart

There's a boy with a monobrow and club foot
And his family own all his villages huts
So I'll travelled to New York
And sold my crotch for a dollar and a short

But there's a symphony in my heart
And I've lost all my morals
Down an alleyway, boot polish, sky gaze
Bloody murder, my life has moved in strangeways
I was the sixth queen from the start
But I cast all my morals
On a tube train, boot polish, sky gaze
Bloody murder my life has moved in strangeways

I've got secrets trapped in my fishnets
I'm a coward man that works in an office block
I was a child who craved for a new world
I was a boy who yearned to be a cover girl
I learnt the history, and read about the six queens
I decided life should be about playing for the other team
I broke society wit a lipstick shot
Now my life has grown for old to hot

But there's a symphony in my heart
And I've lost all my morals
Down an alleyway, boot polish, sky gaze
Bloody murder, my life has moved in strangeways
I was the sixth queen from the start
But I cast all my morals
On a tube train, boot polish, sky gaze
Bloody murder my life has moved in strangeways

But theres a tragedy in my heart
But I've lost all my morals
Down an alleyway, boot polish, sky gaze
Bloody murder, my life has moved in strangeways
I was the sixth queen from the start
But I cast all my morals
On a tube train, boot polish, sky gaze
Bloody murder my life has moved in strangeways

Wait for me about a year or two

Did I mention I love Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin?....and it isn't just due to the name and the idea it sends (in case you did not know, I was really fascinated by Yeltsin at the tender age of 6...). It also because of 'Oregon Girl', a song of which I just can't seem to get enough...And the rest of the album, Broom, an album that is not inovative, not surprising...well, the rest of the album is something like an acoustic Bloc Party meets an acoustic Interpol meets Of Montreal on their first album meets..well, just about any big indie cult band of the last decade (Elliot Smith, The Shins, Olivia Tremor Control..with some vocals Conor Oberst-style)...even more surprising is the ease the four guys for SSLYBY have when performing...such an ease, you can't posibily not love their girl-named songs....

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin - Oregon Girl.mp3

Fucking Amazing For 5 Euros

Time: 6:30 pm…I leave home, heading towards Grand Zero (apparently one of the indiest venues in Lyon). 7:30…I finally get there. No one in front of the bar and the doors are closed…hm…around 8:00…people start gathering in front of the venue, all waiting for what was going to be a fucking amazing gig…8 something…the doors open and I prepare the 5 euros I am going to pay for the gig (it was a concert with ‘prix libre’…each person gave how much they wanted/could….)…9:30ish….finally, the opening act, Clara Clara, starts their performance. This noise rock experimental French group…may I say…people jumped around…danced….and the band….they were fantastic….their performance convinced my to buy one of their demos…10:30ish and finally the trio we were all there for got on stage: DEERHOOF….Fucking amazing…Naturally, the crowd moshed, jumped, people flew over the crowd, people were hurt…I moshed a bit, but it seems I have this strange repulsion towards moshpits ever since the Klaxons gig…I particularly adored the drums…The drummer has got lots of energy…and the three band members did really seemed impressed by the great reaction the crowd had towards their music…They played for an hour (I must say, lucky me...they played ‘Milking’…my favorite song…)….and gave away their best…So, after an hour, I was on my way to metro D, praying I’d catch the last tram…which I did…

Sometimesisbetter....

Trying to pass as french, four guys from Liverpool charmed me with their name : Hot Club De Paris... I didn't care what type of music they did, where they came from... I just knew I wanted their music... So I bought their album without ever hearing a song... a short album, lacking moments of slownnes and not letting the listeners rest a bit - and it's doing just fine like this -, with dazzling drums, strong punk influences, with a song that has a Clockwork vibe - (not) surprisingly intitled "Clockwork Toy" -, with sharp, funny, unexpected lyrics - "Me and my shock realisation that suddenly I didn't nearly say 'good morning! I'm yr local lonely cyclist, yr lonesome adopted small town kid'" -, with a british accent specific to Alex Turner, which they turn in order to fit their own desires and use it fully to their advantage... An album made for those who have too much energy, cause "the night's too young for the punk rock kids like us to grow old"....

Something fun...

Hey, Steve...hope you like this....

How We Were Charmed By Nathanial Fregoso

In case you did not know, Nathanial Fregoso is the lead singer of LA indie-pop outfit The Blood Arm. They played here, in Lyon, last evening. The usual: I got there half an hour before the time on the ticket: 19:30. Inside, this huge crowd of...15 people. I got myself a Blood Arm tshirt, chated a bit with the guy selling the tees...American, told me that they like it to be cold in Europe when they come here (wrong time you picked...30 degrees celsius...oh, dear)...At about 20:45 the music stopped, so I assumed the opening act will grace us with they presence (the opening act on the ticket being this French outfit, Second Sex...). However, one must learn to utterly distrust FNAC (remember, at Klaxons, the opening act according to FNAC was Twisted Charm...). So, instead of French indie, the tee guy told us a story, about how he got arrested by la police because he yelled "Fuck Sarko" (up to date, aren't you?) and then he introduced Blood Arm. The four guys from Blood Arm got on stage and the show took off...and what a show. Nathanial spent most of his time in the crowd, kissing and hugging people (yes, I am not washing for the next four months). During "Angela", he asked us to sit down with him on the filthiest floor he had seen in France and feel the pure emotion. During another song (its name slips my mind right now) he sang from the bathroom and even picked people out of the crowd to be his bathroom singers. And when he was on stage, he jumped around, shook his ass ( at one point he asked us to yell "Vive la fete!"...a fan yelled "Vive la fesse!" instead) and crumbled to the floor like some kind of indie preacher. For the last song, he helped people get on stage, so by the end of the gig, half of the audience was up there. After these 45 minutes feeled with 'pure emotion', I grabbed a setlist off stage and got again on metro B back to the dorm....

O cronica a internetului....

Hardcore = nucleu dur
- emo hardcore = nucleu dur emotional

I hate yr guts = iti urasc intestinele (recunosc...nu gandeam cand am zis-o)

Klaxons = clacsonii (bican...)

Pulp = pulpa (stiu...asta e evident..dar eu am avut nevoie de ceva timp sa imi dau seama...de fapt, mi-a zis Bican..ca eu nu imi dadeam seama...contextu' e de vina..)

Supergrass = iarba uriasa (maaaama, va dati seama....*face ochii mari*)

whatever! = oricum! (nu cronica aia a internetului..aia e naspa, fata!)

White Stripes = dungile albe (clasica...)

[va urma...apreciez propuneri...:->]

*indiot e neaos dom'ne...e breviat chiar....am scos-o in a 12a...tot cu Bican...tocmai ne luasem o Cola la jumate de la bufetu' liceului (ca de obicei...Nancy facuse cinste...)...si cred ca Bican a intrat cu fata in usa de la iesire (aia care stiu liceul nostru iubit stiu la ce ma refer) imediat dupa ce a zis-o....:|

A Poem

Oh,Simon if you cut your hair

It'll send Christina to despair

Simon Taylor Davies

Katie wants to have your babies

That black mess on top of your head

Leaves some girls dead

Simon Taylor-Davies

I love your guitar abilities

It seems like you're always smoking cigarettes

I love when you preform it seems as if you have tourettes

Your hair reminds me of Donlad King

Do you by any chance swing

You have the best shoes

You are this poets muse

I love how you sit in a girly way

I'll be very sad the day your hair turns gray

You have a lovely blue guitar

Some people might find you crazy or bizarre

You're the best back up singer I've ever heard

You are the klaxon to be preferred

Horses might find that ther wings are damaged, water damaged

But don't worry you're still handsome, how have you managed?

Simon is a klaxons not centaur!

I'm sure you would make an outstanding mentor

Watching interviews with you in them are the best

I swear i'm not obsessed

Cunning Part 2...

It's another video by Chris Cunningham (I had a post with "Black Hole Sun")...It happens to be one of the best vids ever done by Placebo...it's really subversive...just like the song...

Good Things, Proud Men

Sebadoh sunt the quintessential 90s low-fi band. Sebadoh sunt schizoizi. Sebadoh sunt o formatie cult a indieului. Sebadoh exista datorita neintelegerilor ( privind the aesthetics?) dintre Lou Barlow (a sensitive chick dressed-up as a guy?)si restul membrilor Dinosaur Jr. (neintelegeri datorita carora exista the sublime milestone “The Freed Pig”). Sebadoh e formatia AIA care m-a fermecat cu “Gimme Indie Rock”, a schizoid combo of Barlow and Gaffney’s ideologies (incepand cu a distorted sound si continuand cu the folk sound so precious to Barlow doar pentru a reveni la the distorts ). Sebadoh sunt the living proof ca Stooges, Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, Syd Barrett si Joni Mitchell pot convietui pe aceleasi albume fara a fi caraghiosi…fara a starni mila si fara pic de ironie. Sebadoh sunt o explozie de punk ( hardcore ca pe “Crisis”, pixies-ian ca pe “Worst Thing”) de bitter love songs, de mesaje transmise asa cum nu credeai ca se poate (“On Fire” si “Ocean” reusesc sa point out the existence of a generation of confused men care nu stiu cu sa asculte nevoile feminime…fara insa a ii transforma in “victime”), de anthemic moments (din nou, “Gimme Indie Rock” stands out, la fel si “Good Things, Proud Man”) si de experimente duse la extrema (“Cecilia Chime In Melee”, un instrumental de 4:19 minute, filled with distorts and heavy punk drums). Sebadoh e formatia AIA care pare a lua locul Placebo in my mind: nu conteaza ca am chef de new rave, de post-punk, de Smiths, de Velvet Underground…merge si un Sebadoh…asa ca nu ne crizam…After all, this is the truly great thing (well, cel putin one of them)….

I always thought silver’s better than gold

Mr. James Murphy said in an interview for Inrockuptible he got the idea for the follow up to his debut (if you could call the ’05 album a debut when talking about Murphy) while sleeping...So he got up…woke up his wife and told him the idea…And so “Sound Of Silver” came to be, the long-awaited second album of the Long Island-born New Yorker….With a greater disco vibe, with a unexpected ballad (“New York I Love You”), conceived for a generation that heads straight for the dance floor, not without worrying about what’s going to happen tomorrow (do Klaxons have anything to say about this?). And given the fact that Mr. Murphy hates art with no precise purpose, this album is…erm…here to remind us that Murphy is the reason why (well, one of them, at least)…”I was the first to play Daft Punk to the rock kids”….With “Sound Of Silver”, he uses a whole album to say it…and he is not so upfront about it…Because now LCD Soundsystem has proven they weren’t just a hype band?…

10 Brilliant Messages....

The four lads from London are back with 10 fresh songs...just like the title of teh album says it "10 New Messages"....Remember the debut, right? It sounds brilliant...It's clearly the legacy of Joy Division(the whipping bass, the dazzling guitars) but it's just so perfectly done and Alan's lyrics are so grounded in society and they embrasse their influences so gracefully, that you'd really have no excuse for not loving them....The new album has the same effect...just that now, the blatant JD influences aren't so blatant....the pop-post-punk wonders are still there, setting off with the brilliantly named "The World Was a Mess But His Hair Was Perfect", getting through the all-so-dancey/fuck-the-world "We Danced Together" and the the-oh-so-perfect-song-to-obsess-about-for-the-rest-of-yr-life "When Tom Cruise Cries" and wrapping with the beautifull "Leave The City And Come Home"...Honestly, I don't think i could've asked for more: a great debut and a lack of what's known as SAS...Now, I must make sure they sound fab live...

Editie Speciala....

Si uite cum o ora de Antena 3 - editie special m-a convis sa intrerup obistnuita serie de bloguri bout music/my life....si sa ma inchin si pe blog de haosul politic din Romania....Trei luni lipsesc si eu....si astia isi fac de cap in ultimul hal...Aflu ca Basescu e suspendat...*complete silence*...si Tariceanu isi faureste un guvern nou-nout...shinny, i might say...Ca sa nu uit de "decesul.....aliantei"(pana mea...iti sta inima in loc cand auzi pauza facuta).. hence...no PD in the new gouvernment...sa raman fara CO2(la cate gaze de esapament se elibereaza in Bucuresti, am ramas de mult fara oxingen...or air, as a matter of fact)...La cum arata Boc si la ce face Basescu, eu le propun un remake "Lord Of The Rings"....Boc = one of those hobbits....Basescu= the big black evil dude(na, ca am uitat cum il cheama...)...Tariceanu= Aragorn(?)...Voiculescu = Saruman(parca asa se scria...)....Stiu, stiu..nu le am cu politica...nu ma pricep si nu imi sta bine pe post de comentator ala cretinitatilor facute/spuse de Romania's very own ex-topmodel....Asa cum nici politicienilor romani nu le sta bine pe post de politicieni...Funny, aren't I?
